In the sub-tropics this is the best time of year to grow veggies. They grow well and it’s great weather to be outside gardening. We’re enjoying growing the usual favourites as well as some vegetables we haven’t successfully grown before.
For the first time we are using exclusion netting over our brassicas and leafy greens. Why oh why haven’t we done this before!? No caterpillars and bugs chewing everything down to the ground. Broccoli and cauliflower are lookin’ good and back on the menu!
It’s a great time to plant some fruit trees too. We now have a little banana plant, a macadamia and have popped in some more dragon fruit cuttings. Hooray!
What’s growing now
- Tropical peaches
- Spring onions
- Cos lettuce and rocket
- Bok choy
- Snap peas
- Limes & lemons
- And the occasional strawberry to enjoy while working in the garden
Things to do
- Plant another round of carrots, cauliflower and bok choy
- Continue mulching the fruit trees
- Enjoy the lovely mild winter weather!
